đźš˝ Please Flush Toilets Before We Arrive
We ask that all toilets be flushed before your cleaning appointment.
At Hummingbird Cleaning Services, cleaning and sanitizing your bathroom is part of our job. That includes cleaning the toilet bowl, seat, lid, exterior, surrounding areas, and bathroom floor. However, removing human waste from a toilet is not the same thing as cleaning and sanitizing the toilet.
If you use the bathroom before leaving your home, flushing the toilet is a basic part of leaving the bathroom in a reasonably clean and sanitary condition. We ask that our clients extend that same courtesy to the professionals coming into their home to clean.
Why This Matters
Human waste should not be left sitting in a toilet for a cleaning professional to discover and remove when it could have simply been flushed.
There are several reasons for this:
It's a basic hygiene practice. Toilets should be flushed after use regardless of whether a cleaning service is scheduled.
It creates unnecessary exposure to bodily waste. Our cleaners should not be expected to handle avoidable human waste when the toilet could have been flushed before we arrived.
It can create odors. Waste sitting in a toilet can produce unpleasant odors that spread throughout the bathroom and surrounding areas.
It can make cleaning more difficult. Waste that has been sitting in a bowl can dry, stick to surfaces, or require additional cleaning before the toilet can be properly sanitized.
It can increase the time required for the bathroom. Our scheduled cleaning time is designed around normal residential cleaning conditions. Time spent dealing with avoidable waste takes time away from other areas of your home.
It helps maintain a sanitary working environment. Our cleaners are entering your home to provide a professional service, and reasonable sanitation should be maintained before they arrive.
Cleaning a Toilet vs. Removing Waste
There is an important difference between the two.
Cleaning a toilet means removing stains, buildup, residue, dust, and germs from the surfaces of the toilet and properly sanitizing the area.
Removing waste that was intentionally left in an unflushed toilet is a different matter.
Our cleaners should not have to walk into a bathroom and discover that a toilet has been left full of human waste simply because the homeowner expected the cleaning service to handle it.
If you use the bathroom before leaving, flush the toilet. It's a simple step that takes a few seconds and ensures that the bathroom is left in a reasonable condition for the person coming to clean it.
What We Consider Normal Bathroom Cleaning
Our standard bathroom service is intended to address the normal cleaning and sanitizing needs of a maintained residential bathroom.
This includes things such as:
Cleaning and sanitizing the toilet
Cleaning the toilet seat and lid
Cleaning the exterior of the toilet
Cleaning the base and surrounding area
Cleaning the sink and fixtures
Wiping counters and accessible surfaces
Cleaning mirrors
Dusting appropriate areas
Cleaning floors
Addressing normal bathroom dust, hair, and everyday buildup
It does not mean that clients should leave behind avoidable bodily waste, excessive contamination, or unusually unsanitary conditions with the expectation that these conditions are automatically included in a standard cleaning.
A Simple Courtesy Goes a Long Way
We understand that life happens. If something unexpected occurs, simply let us know.
What we are asking is simple: please leave the bathroom in a reasonably sanitary condition before our team arrives.
If you used the toilet, flush it.
If there is a spill, let us know.
If there has been a pet accident, tell us.
If something requires special attention, communicate that with us beforehand.
Our cleaners are here to provide a thorough, professional cleaning—not to judge your home or make an issue out of everyday messes. But there is a difference between normal household cleaning and leaving behind something that could have easily been taken care of before the appointment.
Respect Goes Both Ways
We respect our clients' homes, belongings, and time, and we ask for that same respect toward our cleaning professionals.
Flushing a toilet may seem like a very small thing—and it is. That's exactly why it should be done.
It takes only a few seconds, keeps the bathroom sanitary, prevents unnecessary exposure to human waste, and allows our team to focus on what you actually hired us to do: clean and sanitize your home.
You don't need to deep-clean your bathroom before we arrive. That's our job. But please take care of the basic things that should be taken care of after using the bathroom.
Flush before you leave. We'll handle the cleaning when we arrive.
