HBCS Winter Weather Policy & Safe Driving Tips
Severe winter weather can be both dangerous and disruptive—especially for those traveling. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, winter storms and poor road conditions contribute to nearly 500,000 vehicle crashes and more than 2,000 fatalities every year.
At Hummingbird Cleaning Services (HBCS), the safety of our clients and staff remains our top priority. We are committed to fulfilling scheduled cleanings whenever possible. However, in cases of hazardous weather, we reserve the right to reschedule appointments to ensure everyone's safety.
We do our best to offer a credit toward your next scheduled cleaning if we must cancel due to severe weather. In cases where a credit cannot be applied, we will work with you to reschedule for a later, safer date.
Cold Weather Safety Tips
To protect yourself and those around you during extreme winter conditions, keep these helpful tips in mind:
Cold Weather Essentials for Your Car:
Carry an emergency kit: extra food, water, blankets, flashlight, medications, and a glass scraper.
Keep tires properly inflated and ensure good tread.
Maintain at least half a tank of fuel at all times.
Never warm up your vehicle in an enclosed space like a garage.
Avoid using cruise control on icy or snowy roads.
Driving in Snow: Smart and Safe Practices
Stay home if travel isn't absolutely necessary.
Drive slowly and increase your following distance to 5–6 seconds.
Accelerate and decelerate gradually to maintain traction and avoid skids.
Know your brakes: apply steady pressure using the ball of your foot.
Avoid complete stops if possible—maintain slow rolling when approaching signals.
Build momentum before hills and avoid powering up snowy inclines.
Why Weather Awareness Matters to Us:
By taking these precautions seriously, we aim to avoid:
Civilian and staff injuries or accidents
Slip-and-fall incidents or insurance claims
Potential property and facility damage
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep everyone safe throughout the winter months.
